Nature Heals
There’s a lot going on right now and feeing the stress of it all is completely normal. When I discovered Shinrin yoku 2 years ago I was an ER doctor working long and late shifts. Not only was the work stressful but my sleep was off (due to both stress and my schedule), I was eating poorly, my weight was up and I felt terrible. I was stressed out!!
I have learned a lot about managing my stress and in am a much better place with my health and sleep now, but when I see all the chaos going on in the world it can feel like the old days of high stress and poor sleep.
One of the ways I have learned to cope with the chaos is to take time in the forest to deliberately slow down and notice what is going on in nature. It helps me get out of my head and more in tune with my body and soul. Simply put, it calms me and centers me.
That’s what we do on a forest therapy walk. I’m not the therapist, nature is. I’m just the guide trained in ways to maximize the benefits of being in nature.
